Boarding Houses

Our boarding houses are modern, warm, inviting spaces. They have been specifically designed to accomodate the needs of girls at different ages, and are regularly renovated and upgraded. The best way to experience the boarding houses is to visit, so we encourage you to contact us and arrange a time for a tour of the boarding and school facilities.

Main House

Main House accommodates approximately 85 girls from Year 7 to Year 11.

Main House is centrally located in the school next to the chapel and music suite and close to the classrooms, swimming pool and sports fields. It houses the school dining room and is a hive of activity during the day and a peaceful haven at night.

In Years 7 and 8 the girls occupy dormitories divided into cubicles, and double or triple rooms. Older girls are allocated to dormitories that are split into small rooms. Modern, comfortable study and common rooms are provided for each year group.

Main House is continually being upgraded, renovated and decorated to meet the needs of today’s living. In 2014 it underwent extensive earthquake strengthening works in a $2 million, 2 year project.

Two full-time house managers and four part-time staff know all the girls and are available to supervise and assist students 24 hours a day.

Hampton House

Senior boarders (Years 12 and 13) live in Hampton House. Purpose built in 1999, Hampton House houses 42 students in individual rooms. For their final two years at St Matthew’s, boarders have an environment that provides a transition between boarding school and the flatting situation that many students move on to.

Each bedroom has a desk, bed, lockable cupboard, storage space and a heated towel rail.

Hampton House has two interconnecting wings, each with its own separate common room with cooking facilities, bathroom and laundry facilities. Outdoor areas for relaxing and studying add to the modern, functional and attractive environment of Hampton House.

Hampton House has a dedicated senior full-time house manager and an assistant full-time matron. One matron always stays in the house overnight.
