St Matthew’s Collegiate School Uniform

St Matthew’s has a classic, practical, stylish uniform in bottle green with gold and black accents.  We are proud of how smart our girls look in their uniforms and we do encourage a high attention to detail in how it is worn and maintained.  The uniform symbolises the traditions and achievements of St Matthew’s and it is important that the uniform is always neat and clean.

We are proud of the quality of our uniform, which is mostly made in New Zealand and is extremely durable.  We do appreciate that the uniform is an additional compulsory expense for our parents/caregivers and, as such, we do minimize any mark up and aim only to cover the cost of running the shop when we set the prices.

Uniform shop location and opening times

The Uniform Shop is located on site, behind Main House and is signposted from the Chapel.  It is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3pm – 4pm during term time, or at other times by appointment.  The shop is also open on the last Sunday of each school holiday 2pm – 5pm, for boarders arriving at school.

The shop is managed by Juliet Smith who can be contacted on 027 5550528 or by emailing: smcsuniforms@trinityschools.nz

What to wear and when

We have a summer and a winter uniform, with a formal and informal version of each.

Formal uniform is worn on Wednesdays when we have Assembly and Chapel, and for events and occasions such as Prizegiving or House Competition days.  Informal uniform is worn for all other days.

Summer uniform is worn in Terms 1 and 4, winter uniform is worn in Terms 2 and 3.

Payment options and disbursements

Eftpos and credit cards are accepted in the Uniform Shop (there is a 2% surcharge for credit card payments).  If paying by cash, please have the correct change.  It is possible to put smaller items on disbursements, the limit for this option is $60.00 (individual arrangements are made for International Students).

Ordering

Most of the uniform is now kept in stock at the uniform shop, but some sizes can sell out, so it is best to plan ahead when new uniform is required (second-hand uniform is not always available).

New students have a full uniform fitting in September (ideally by 20th September).  The summer and sports uniform for the start of year is purchased at this appointment.

  • The order for winter uniform is placed by 20th October, with delivery by the end of March.  Payment for ordered uniform is made in term 1, by EFTPOS on collection, or before collection via Internet banking.
  • A top-up Summer Order is placed by 20th September, with delivery by the end of December.

PE and winter sports uniforms are kept in stock in the Uniform Shop.

A range of second-hand uniform is also sold in the uniform shop, this is very much dependent on availability and is not always perfect!

Jewellery and make up

Only a wristwatch and a single pair of stud earrings can be worn, one in each ear (ear lobe, not high in the ear).  The earrings should be small, and only plain gold, silver or white pearls are permitted. Nail varnish is not appropriate for school.  Make up is not permitted at school.

Hair

Hair should be clean, tidy, of a natural colour and tied back off the face.  Bottle green ribbons or bottle green, black or tortoiseshell clips, bands or hair ties only.
