St Matthew’s recognises the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) as the main New Zealand Secondary School qualification. We encourage students to aim high and achieve Merit and Excellence NCEA endorsements. Students are expected to enter all assessments associated with any course of study.
Our NCEA Student Handbook contains all the information you will need.
Our latest ERO report found:
“Student achievement of NCEA qualifications in Years 11 to 13 is very high and compares favourably with similar girls’ schools nationally. In 2010, 100% of Year 11 students achieved NCEA Level 1. Year 12 and 13 students experience high rates of NCEA Levels 2 and 3 qualifications and university entrance. In 2010, students achieved eleven New Zealand Scholarships, with six in the visual arts.”
Other assessments and competitions are sought to provide additional academic challenge.
The NCEA Internals Timetable 2017 for the year gives a guideline for assessment dates. Be mindful that these dates are subject to change.
