St Matthew’s Collegiate School in Masterton has a proud history of academic achievement and excellence. In 2018 we are offering a range of scholarships for prospective boarders to encourage and reward academic excellence, to attract and retain preference students, and to assist high-achieving students who will benefit from financial support in their transition to boarding. Existing day students who wish to become boarders are welcome to apply for scholarships.

Awards do not require application. Awards are decided by an academic panel.

St Matthew’s Foundation Scholarship – application required (see link below)

This scholarship targets existing St Matthew’s students in Year 11 who actively demonstrate academic commitment, and ardently contribute to our school’s special character.

The purpose of the scholarship is to support day-girls who wish to transition to boarding. Day girls who have achieved well in any aspect of school life are encouraged to apply.

The scholarship is valued at $4000 each for two years.

St Matthew’s Old Girls Association Scholarship (not available until 2019)

This is a two year Scholarship targeting any student accepted for the 2019 enrolment or presently attending St Matthew’s Collegiate with an old-girl connection (daughter, granddaughter, niece). The student will need to complete the first page of the St Matthew’s Collegiate School Scholarship Application Form, provide two referees (a. current teacher b. non-related) and prepare a proposal articulating why they would be a worthy recipient of this scholarship. The old-girl connection must be a paid up SMOGA member. The recipient is encouraged to commit to lifetime membership of SMOGA on leaving school.

The scholarship is valued at $2000 per year.

Academic Awards – no application required

The following awards are presented to existing students who achieve at the highest levels, but not necessarily to the top student. An academic panel will determine the recipients of these awards.

Junior Academic Award – can be awarded to a Year 8 or 9 student. Awarded annually for the following academic year to the value of $1000 (student must have achieved well above the National Standard or at least a merit average in all assessments).

Upper School Academic Award – can be awarded to a Year 10 or 11 student. Awarded annually for the following academic year to the value of $1000 (must have achieved at least a merit average in all school assessments).

Senior School Academic Award – awarded to a Year 12 student. Awarded annually for the following academic year to the value of $1000 (must have achieved at least a merit average in all school assessments).

St Matthew’s Entrance Awards – no application required

There are two awards available – one at Year 7 and one at Year 9 – based on entrance exam results. The award is for the student’s first year of schooling to the value of $500. An academic panel will determine the recipients of these awards.

Entrance exams take place in October, usually on the first Friday of Term 4 during our Orientation Day. Both girls who are enrolled to start at the beginning of the next year and existing students will sit these exams. They provide us with a ‘snapshot’ of where the girls are at this stage in their academic life.

Prelude Art Award – no application required

The Prelude Art Award is presented to a student in recognition of the Centennial Celebration which saw the creation of the Prelude Sculpture by renowned artist Virginia King. The award is to a student who has demonstrated promise and excellence in visual art.

The award is valued at $500.

Sports Scholarship – application required (see link below)

One scholarship is available each year for prospective boarders who have great sporting talent and a demonstrable record of sporting achievement. Recipients will be expected to excel in their chosen sport and make a broader contribution to sport at St Matthew’s. Existing student who wish to become boarders are invited to apply.

Scholarship value is $1500 for one year.

Arts Scholarship – application required (see link below)

One scholarship is available each year for prospective boarders who have great artistic ability (in for example visual art or painting) and demonstrate record of achievement. Existing students who want to become boarders are invited to apply.

Scholarship value is $1500 for one year.

Cultural Scholarship – application required (see link below)

One scholarship is available each year for prospective boarders who have great ability in their chosen cultural activity (which could include musicianship or stage performance etc) and demonstrate record of achievement. Existing students who wish to become boarders are invited to apply.

Scholarship value is $1500 for one year.
